Poet Edith Södergran (1892–1923) was a Swedish-speaking Finn, born in St. Petersburg, who was a remarkable early modernist. Södergran lived in poverty in a war zone and died young of tuberculosis, but was a trailblazer in Swedish-language poetry, and the first Finnish modernist poet. Her free verse poetry reflects the difficult conditions of her life, but also the wonder of nature.
This bilingual edition has the original Swedish text alongside English translations. The volume includes selections from Poems (1916), The September Lyre (1918), The Rose Altar (1919), The Shadow of the Future (1920), and The Country That Isn't (1925).
